When MashupHub is installed it creates objects which are stored in a repository. MashupHub is a Web application which allows you to view and take actions on objects and create new objects.

Listed below is some important terminology to help you become familiar with MashupHub:
| Catalog || The catalog is a repository. All feed, feed mashup, and widget information is kept in the catalog. |
| Object || An object is an item which is contained in the catalog. For instance, feeds and widgets are objects. |
| Feed || A feed contains XML data. RSS, Atom and XML feeds are available on the Internet. |
An example of an RSS feed is the top news stories from Yahoo!, available at http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories.
Feeds in MashupHub can be created using departmental and enterprise data sources and then accessed via a URL.
Existing RSS, Atom or XML feeds available on the Internet can be registered in MashupHub and accessed via the catalog.

| A Feed Mashup is created using the Feed Mashup builder. To create a new Feed Mashup using the Feed Mashup builder an existing feed is used as the source of data. Feed Mashups are stored in the catalog and can be used like regular feeds. |
| Widget || A widget is a miniature application that is embedded within an HTML page. With a widget, dynamic content is displayed on the page. |
| Page || A page is a collection of widgets and other HTML mark up that can be displayed in a Web browser. A page can be a mashup application or a regular Web page. |
| Data Source || A Data source is used to create a new feed in MashupHub. |
A data source is any type of data which can be consumed by MashupHub and turned into a feed. Also referred to as a source.
| Tag || A word used to classify an object. The tag describes the object it is associated with and is used to help aid in the search for like objects. Any community member may tag an object. |
| Category || A keyword or keywords used to group objects. Only an administrator may create a Category. Any community member can add an object to a Category, once it is created. |
| Rating || A mechanism for any community member to attach a rating to an object. A low rating is one star and the highest is five stars. |
| Community || All the users for a specific MashupHub installation. In a broad sense, it is the term used to describe the sharing and annotating of objects by MashupHub users for the benefit of all users. |
| My Favorites || A category used to group all objects you create or designate as a favorite. |
