Use the Enable the republish role
setting to enable role checking if you do not want users to bypass the access control list (ACL) of the feeds in the catalog. Republish
refers to when a user creates a data mashup using a feed that is owned by another user. This feature restricts that ability.
An administrator can prevent users from using custom feeds in the data mashup builder or in the Feed Registration feed generator. Custom feeds are feeds that are not public or feeds that were not created by the user.
Using the republish role is a two-part process:
- Select Enable republish role in Settings -> Environment -> Configuration Settings. Once selected, only users with the republish role can republish custom feeds. By default, administrators have the republish role.
- Grant individual users the republish role using WebSphere® Application Server administrative console. See Assigning the republish roleUsers who have the republish role can republish all feeds to which they have access, including feeds that have custom permissions. By default, administrators have the republish role..
Users who have been granted the republish role will be able to search for, view, and use all the feeds in the catalog that they have access to.
Users who do not
have the republish role will see the following differences in the user interface:
- The Source operator in the data mashup builder will not have a URL field. Users can use the From Catalog field to browse the catalog for feeds that they own or for feeds with public permission. To use an external URL, the user would have to create the feed first with the Feed Registration feed generator.
- Users will be limited to public, user-owned feeds (no custom feeds), or external feeds when registering feeds using the Feed Registration feed generator.
Enabling and then disabling the republish role does not affect any data mashups or feeds that have already been created. The Republish role is only checked when users create feeds or data mashups. If you grant a user the republish role, and then remove it, the feeds and data mashups that the user created with custom feeds remain valid.
