A space is a hierarchy of pages with a set of members. You can provide access to spaces to both individual users and groups of users. After you provide access, these users automatically inherit the access-control settings for the pages contained in the space.
You can set default themes for spaces. When you set a theme for a space, all the pages that you create from that point forward in that space inherit the theme. If you want to apply the new theme to the pages that already exist in the space, you must set the theme manually for each individual page. You can also import and export spaces, for example into some sort of source control application. When you import and export a space, you import and export the entire hierarchy of pages contained in the space.
You can also publish spaces to the catalog as a template to share with others. Users can then go to the catalog and add the template to their version of Mashup Center and create a new space from your template. They can create as many instances of the space as they need to from your template.
After you publish a space to the catalog as a template, you can import it into Business Space as a composite application. In this case, you are importing the entire hierarchy of pages, which is why you can import it at the composite application level, not just as a single page. You can then add your application back to Mashup Center and use it as a template to create new spaces.
This topic describes how to create a new space. At a high level, a space is a collection of related pages. Every space must contain at least one page. After you create a space, you can add pages to it, publish it to the catalog as a template, share it with others, add it to your favorites list, and more.
Designating spaces as favorites
You can designate spaces as your favorite spaces for easy access. After you add the space, it displays automatically in the space navigator at the top of the browser. It also displays in the space manager when you filter out only your favorite spaces.
Making a space your home space
You can make a space your home space and then configure your login properties so that the home space opens by default whenever you open the mashup builder.
If you own a space, you can delete it so that it and the pages it contains are no longer available.
Working with pages in spaces
When you work with a space, you can perform various tasks to create, modify, and configure the pages that are contained within the space. For example, you can create a new page for the space, import a page into the space, and share an individual page in the space.
Managing spaces and pages in the space manager
The space manager is an integrated interface that allows you to manage your spaces as well as the pages contained within your spaces.
Publishing spaces to the catalog as templates
When publishing spaces to the catalog, you are making them available for others to use as a template when creating new spaces. You can control who can view the space. You can make the space display only for you, or you can make it public for everyone to see.
If you are the owner or editor of a space, you can export it. Exporting a space is useful if you want to give others a copy of your space without giving them access to it or if you want to recreate the space later. When you export a space, you also export the pages, widgets, wiring settings, and access control lists that are part of that space.
When you import a space, you also import all of the pages contained in the space. You can import a new space that does not currently exist in your space selector, or you can import an existing space. If you import an existing space, this space overrides the existing space.
