You use the Attachment widget to display a list of the documents that are attached to a work item. These documents can be stored on the IBM® FileNet® Content Engine server or the Content Manager EE server.
For FileNet P8 documents, the Attachment widget lists attachments by the document title assigned when the attachment was added to the widget. For Content Manager EE documents, the Attachment widget lists the attachments by the value of the first attribute that is defined for the Content Manager EE item type. This title or property value is retained even if the title or property value changes in the repository. To update the title, you must remove the document from the Attachment widget and then reattach it after the title change.
In addition to viewing attachments, you can do the following tasks with the Attachment widget:
- Upload local files to a repository
- Attach documents by browsing and selecting them from a repository
- Check out, check in, cancel checkout, and view properties of documents; download attachments; remove attachments
You can select any item to add to the Attachment widget, including system files such as workflows and entry templates. However, the Attachment widget supports only FileNet P8 documents and Content Manager EE documents. The check out, check in, cancel checkout, and view properties actions are not supported for other file types and can produce unexpected results.
For FileNet P8 documents, you can select the version of the document that you want to work with. Versioning is not supported for Content Manager EE documents.
The fields that are displayed on the Attachment widget and the actions that you can take are determined by the following permissions modes, which are assigned to the fields when the workflow is created:
The Attachment widget displays the attachment name and the name of the assigned target. You can access the target, but you cannot assign a different target for the attachment.Write
The Attachment widget displays the attachment name, but not the name of the assigned target. Optionally, you can assign a different target for the attachment.Read/write
The Attachment widget displays the attachment name and the name of the assigned target. You can access the target and, optionally, you can assign a different target for the attachment.
When the attachment field property is read/write, the changed or saved properties display. You can check that the properties were changed or saved by going to the Attachment widget, and clicking the attachment Action
button. Select Properties
to display the new property values.
Some attachment fields can be read-write in one step and read-only or write-only in another step. For example, assume the attachment field for My Picture in the Index step is read-only, but read/write in the Review step. If you add a new attachment in the Index step and modify its properties, the changed properties do not display. However, when the work item goes to the Review step and you click the Properties
menu, the changed properties display.
If you own the page that the Attachment widget is on or have permission to edit the page, you can configure the widget.
