When installing WebSphere Application Server, Oracle, and DB2®
on Red Hat Enterprise Linux®
5.x, take note of the following tips. These tips were collected by the IBM®
System Verification team that is responsible for testing the installation, configuration, and deployment of Mashup Center 2.0.
Tips for installing WebSphere Application Server V184.108.40.206 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x
- Disable the firewall and SELinux before installing Linux.
- Before installing WebSphere Application Server, make sure that the necessary packages installed on the Linux platform:
- rpm-4.4.2-47 .el5
If you do not find all the packages, you can locate them on the Linux installation CD and install them from there. During the installation, you may also need some dependency packages. For more information, see Preparing Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 for installation
Tips for installing Oracle 10.2.0.1 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x
- Run the following command to see which of the required RPM packages were installed with Linux:
# rpm -qa binutils compat-* control-center gcc* glibc*
gnome-libs libstdc* make sysstat setarch
Here is a list of the required packages:
Note: If you selected Development Tools
, x Software development
and Legacy software development package
when you installed Linux, you will just need to install the following RPM packages:
- If any of the required packages were not installed, run the following command to install them: # rpm -ivh xxx.rpm, where xxx.rpmis the name of the RPM package. Modify the system kernel parameters by adding the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf:
kernel.shmall = 2097152
kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
kernel.shmmni = 4096
kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
fs.file-max = 65536
net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
net.core.rmem_default = 1048576
net.core.rmem_max = 1048576
net.core.wmem_default = 262144
net.core.wmem_max = 262144
Either reboot your system or run sysctl -p
to apply the settings
- Add the following lines to /etc/pam.d/login:
session required /lib/security/pam_limits.so
session required pam_limits.so
- Add the following lines to /etc/security/limits.conf:
oracle soft nproc 2047
oracle hard nproc 16384
oracle soft nofile 1024
oracle hard nofile 65536
- Add the following lines to /etc/profile:
if [ \$USER = "oracle" ]; then
if [ \$SHELL = "/bin/ksh" ]; then
ulimit -p 16384
ulimit -n 65536
ulimit -u 16384 -n 65536
- Add redhat -5 to the list of operating systems in Oracle_install_folder\\database\\install\\oraparam.ini.
- Create an Oracle user account as the root by running # groupadd dba group to set the group name, # useradd -g dba oracle to set the user name, and # passwd oracle dbadmin to set the user password.
- Install the Oracle user by running # ./runInstaller. Be sure you have the following settings:
- Global database name: orcl
- Database password: passw0rd
- home loacation: /home/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1
- name: OraDb10g_home1
After completing the installation, click Exit.
Set the Oracle environment by editing /home/oracle/.bash_profile with the following lines:
During the installation, run the following two scripts as the root user:
Do the following steps to create the new Oracle database:
, and run # source .bash_profile
to load new environment.
- As the Oracle user, run # dbca to create a new database named MASHUPS.
- Run # netca to create a Listener and # lsnrctl status to view the listener status. The Listener parameter file is located in :/opt/oracle/10g/network/admin/listener.ora.
- Run # netca to open the Oracle Net Configuration Assistant. In the assistant, do these steps:
- Select the Local net service name configuration.
- Click Next, and select Add.
Specify MASHUPS as the service name.
- Click Next, and then select TCP.
- Specify the host name.
- Select Yes, perform a test.
- Run # sqlplus system/dbadmin@MASHUPS to test the Oracle connection.
- Run # emctl start dbconsole to start the Oracle enterprise manager. Then use http://mumivt9.cn.ibm.com:1158/em/console/aboutApplication to log in to the database console. Use system as the user name and dbadmin as the password.
- Configure the Oracle database MASHUPS for Lotus® Mashups. See Configuring Oracle for Lotus Mashups : Mashup Center 2.0 for more information.
Tips for installing DB2 V9.5 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.x
Be sure that the following required RPM packages are installed:
