If you bought your server from one of the major vendors, it will certainly have come with suite of diagnostic software -- possibly even in firmware that you can access by pressing a specific key during bootup. If the NIC came built into the server, it will probably be included in the diagnostics. You may want to check the support site for your server vendor (and/or NIC vendor if it ws an add-on card) for the most up-to-date version of their diagnostics.
I'm not really up-to-date on network monitoring/diagnostic tools, so I hesitate to make any specific recommendations other than to go to the support web sites of your switch and router vendor and see what they have.
