Here is our setup:
1. Development template where design elements are edited.
2. Release template where updated design elements are element-level-linked to the development template, refreshed, and tested. Using TeamStudio CIAO! changes can be rolled back for more work in the development template.
3. Live databases periodically refreshed from the release template.
We run into problems whenever we update a script library that contains user defined class(es). The script library is refreshed to the release template, and then refreshed out to the live databases, and then "Error loading USE or USELSX module" starts appearing with untouched elements that use that script library. What is the best way to deal with this?
Recompile all LotusScript - this should be done in the release template? Does this really even fix the problem, do we then need to also sign the database? Do we really need to refresh and replicate out every single design element? Currently we sometimes fumble around in the release template adding & removing spaces and saving to recompile problematic elements, but this can't be proper. Is there a best practise for this? Do other people have this problem? What do you do?
What is the root of this problem? The timestamp on the script library is later than the design element using the script library? Why is this an error? Why does this not affect script libraries that do not contain classes? Or do I not understand?
I'd really like to see OOP used more in our company, but this problem makes developers reluctant. If there are best practises that would avoid these problems, or put another way if there are work arounds for the ??buggy?? way updates to user defined classes are handled, then hopefully we could write better code. Any explanations and/or suggestions greatly appreciated.
If the bug is in our understanding, or if the bug is in Notes/Domino, or if the bug is in the way we have things set up, it doesn't really make much difference as long as we can work it out somehow. I'd really appreciate a little education whatever it is! Thanks.
