You need to narrow down the occurrence. for example,
1. does it happen with one edit and a save/close?
2. does it only happen when they hit a certain action button?
3. what version are the users who have the problem on?
4. are they running it locally or against a server?
5. is there a differnce in network performance for the users having a problem? if yes, what if they try it locally?
6. which field edits are being lost? all? are they in a controlled section?
carefully document the steps of when it works and when it doesn't and drill down from there. review all forumlas in the action buttons.
