Julian Robichaux 16.Nov.03 04:22 PM a Web browser Notes Client 6.5 Windows XP
I have no idea if this is "normal" behavior, or if this has been happening for several versions of the product, or even if this can be reproduced, but this was unexpected to me so I thought I should mention it here on the forum:
In Notes 6.5, using Windows XP, I had a field in a database called "status". I created a view column with a formula like "@If(status = 1; "In Process"; "Complete")", and everything displayed as expected. If I manually change the column name in the view to be "status" and I save the view, all the values in the column will be the status number, not the formula value. However, if I change the name of the column to something else (like "process_status"), then everything will work again.
I know that the column name can be used to programatically access the column data, but I had no idea that it could affect the data in the column itself. I checked the other columns in the view, and there weren't any other columns that were also named "status" (which was my first guess).
Bug? Feature? I don't know. It was surprising to me, and it's certainly easy enough to work around, but it's nothing I was aware of before (and yes, I did do a search in the forum before I posted this, so if this has already been discussed and I simply didn't see it then I apologize to everyone in the world who might be offended by this potentially duplicate entry).
