We have a couple of customers whose outbound SMTP messages occasionally get stuck in the queue. They are not dead, just stuck. If we leave them alone they will eventually go, however one of our customers is not happy with this. To date we have been manually moving these messages to another server so they can go out an alternative route.
Does anybody know if it's possible to write a script that will automatically move messages to another server if it has determined that they've been in the queue for a certain amount of time (maybe 15 minutes)?
Any idea what kind of server resource impact running this kind of script would have? Our servers are a little old and slow.
