First, could you use computed text for this instead of a computed for display field? That may make things a little simpler. Second, do you have the 'originatordsply' field positioned below or to the right of the 'originator' field? The order of execution could cause the problem you're seeing. You said that this is a form that opens in a dialog box? Is that form set to "Automatically refresh fields"? Because that might explain why the field shows up when you change fields. Finally, if this doesn't help, you may want to post your code for all the fields you mentioned and your hide-when formulas. This might help us figure out where the problem is.
