select File, Preferences from the Notes menu. click the plus sign ('+') next to 'Mail' to open the subsection. click Internet to display the Internet settings dialog.
There are four settings:
- Use Unicode (UTF-8)
This configures Notes to always use the Unicode character set for text in outgoing messages. All characters can be represented in Unicode, but there may still be recipients using older mail clients which do not handle Unicode well or at all.
- Use Best Match
This configures Notes to use the (non-Unicode) character set that represents most, if not all, of the characters in the outgoing message. If it is impossible to represent all of the characters in a single character set, then those characters which cannot be represented will be replaced by the ASCII question mark ('?').
- Use Unicode and prompt
This has the same affect as option 1 above, but the sender is prompted before the message is sent and may make another choice.
- Use Match and prompt
This has the same affect as option 2 above, but the sender is prompted before the message is sent and may make another choice.
