we are looking to upgrade our 8.5.1 Notes clients to FP5 and ST 8.5.1. You can use smart upgrade however, in order for it to function properly, you have to chain the installs together. I found out from IBM, if you use smartupgrade to just install ST 8.5.1, smart upgrade checks the Notes client for some sort of incremental update. When it doesn't see that, it prompts you to run the install again and you end up with a ST install which constantly wants to run.
To go around that, they have created the chainedinstall.vbs file. You are suppose to point the smart upgrade kit to that vbs file which then calls the first install (fix pack), then the second install (ST). The problem is Admin rights.
In order to run this install on our workstations, I've created a batch file which calls the script file which then runs the install. Using SURunasWizard.exe in the Notes directory, I've packaged the whole thing together and set it to execute the batch file first. It doesn't work.
It looks for the batch file in Windows\System32 but the files are extracted to %temp%\SURunas####\users\%username%\Desktop\Local Install so obviously, it doesn't execute.
The #### represent a random number which seems to be generated when it unpacks the files. If I point SURunasWizard to call the vbs file, it does the same thing.
IBM states that the install is an unsupported method. Great! Smart upgrade doesn't work correctly for installing ST. That needs to be fixed but until then, does anyone have a work around to use?
