Is XPages in use?
How about Java itself?
What's the Java heap usage, max limits, how are they doing?
Are there agents in use that overuse CPU?
Are there agents in use that overuse memory?
Are there HTTP requests in use from XPages that overuse memory?
Your experience sounds a lot like one of 2 different things may be happening:
1- Java is being invoked constantly and the JVM isn't dropping to a point where it can garbage collect. Normally this shows up in the Java heap constantly increasing 'til the server's out of memory.
Simplest answer is to invoked the garbage collector, gc(), after any heavy or constantly-used service.
Longer answer is to tune your use of services so the server catches its breath.
2- Some service is using an immense amount of memory and not releasing it back.
This normally takes the form of a Java object that reads hundreds of docs or databases, but doesn't recycle().
Simplest answer here is -- use recycle().
Longer answer is, the recycle() also doesn't do garbage collection, so highly advise invoking gc() at the end of this object's run as well.
