Subject: XPages: How to inherit field values
Feedback Type: Question
Product Area: Domino Designer on Eclipse (DDE)
Technical Area: Application Development
Platform: Not Applicable
Release: 8.5.2
Reproducible: Not applicable

I'm new to Xpages, and I am wondering how to inherit field values from a parent xpage back end doc. I've looked all over the place and there seems to be very little information on this, which leads me to believe I am missing something so obvious that other people are simply not having trouble with it.

As an example, I have a simple xpage called xProduct that has a product_id field on it. The related form fProduct, has the same, and it is computed when composed to "@unique". I want to create a response document using the xProductDescription xpage that inherits the productid field value. I have a computed field on it that evalutes to 'productid'. The related form fProductDescripton has "Formulas Inherit field values..." checked. When I hit the button on the xProduct page that creates a description response, its computed 'productid' field is empty.

Saving it and inspecting the response doc in the notesview reveals that it indeed has the $REF field with the proper parent unid value. So the response part is working, but the inherit fields part isn't.

Is there an easy setting for that somewhere, or do I have to write code to copy what I want from the parent doc? (I've seen examples of this in another thread here)

Thanks for any light you can shed.
