Subject: Trying to understand Configuration Settings document - Router/SMTP - Restrictions and Controls - Transfer Controls tab and MailTimeoutMinutes notes.ini variable
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Domino Server
Technical Area: Administration
Platform: Linux server
Release: 8.5.1
Reproducible: Always

I'm trying to understand the impact of the MailTimeoutMinutes notes.ini variable all by itself without changing any defaults in the server's config doc. It doesn't seem to be generating NDR in a few minutes, it's taking 5 days. Do I also need to change some settings in the config doc under Router/SMTP - Restrictions and Controls - Transfer Controls?

Bottom line: if I want the server to only try to deliver a message for 10 minutes, give up and deliver an NDR, what are all the steps I need to take?

This is the reason for the NDR that took 5 days despite the notes.ini setting:
lost connection with[] while sending message body
