Subject: What slows down the client on this staging server?
Feedback Type: Problem
Product Area: Notes Client
Technical Area: User Interface
Quite a few years ago, Symantec AV was set up with some Notes checking feature on by default that had the side effect of pausing any time you 'touched' a document with attachments, e.g. if you highlighted it in a view. Apparently any 'touch' resulted in scanning the attachments. Now that is turned off and disabled, but I see somewhat similar behavior in a DB I support has a replica on a staging server that serves up an ibm.com website.
I have a view of a set of <200 docs that contain no text and between 1 and 32 attachments ranging in size from 50KB to around 200KB. So it's not a lot of docs and the attachments are small. When I open that view in the Windows client, I get the hourglass and lightning bolt flashing for about 10 seconds. It does it for another few seconds each time I highlight a doc.
Another view in the DB has a similar number of docs, but they contain only HTML and no attachments. When I open that view it spins for a couple of seconds and again briefly with each doc I highlight.
Is there some sort of added layer of Symantec-like checking that these production servers have that causes this maddening behavior at the client? Thanks.
