I'm running default Feisty: Desktop Effects are turned off.
So, I've replaced the sh symbolic link as per your suggestion. Redid the install (using the GUI: sudo ./setup.sh).
Amazingly, it now works.
I'm not sure if I had just changed the link even after it was installed if it would have worked, but in any case, it now works.
Unbelievable. Whod'a thunk it... In any case, thank you *very* much for your help. I now have a Notes client! :)
