Brand new Feisty install. About the only thing added was Sun Java 6. I don't think that matters: the beta comes with its own JRE (IBM J9 1.50).
I ran the install as "sudo ./setup.sh" and accepted all defaults.
After this, if you run "/opt/ibm/lotus/notes/notes" nothing happens. Renaming "~/lotus" allows the client to run. However, after going through the standard connect to server wizard I get the following error:
"Cannot write or create file (file or disk is read-only): pernames.ntf"
Of course, it's not... If you try running the client "sudo /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/notes" you get a message saying that you can't run the client as root.
I've done an uninstall and reinstall. I've tried rebooting at various points. I've "chmod +777" on both /opt and ~/lotus. None of these have helped.
