Solution

With Firefox you do a search for "mailto" in the Applications tab and then "Choose Other" and point to nlnotes.exe

With IE you have to change the registry value found here: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE|Classes\mailto\Shell\Open\Command
