A refresh of the IBM Notes Traveler 9.0 Beta code is now available. You can
download the updated code from the IBM Notes and Domino 9.0 Social Edition
Public Beta download site.
http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ndsebetaforum.nsf/topicThread.xsp?action=openDocumen
t&documentId=2F8AD78A70015CC485257AD3004AF0EE
This server build number is 9.0.0.0 Build 201301311945 or 201301311946.
The beta can be installed on a fresh server without any previous IBM Notes
Traveler beta server or it can be applied directly to a server already running
the IBM Notes Traveler 9 public beta. You must stop the Domino server before
proceeding with the installation.
This beta refresh contains many fixes for known issues but the following items
are new or significant enough to be highlighted:
Fixes for intermittent Windows Phone 8 synchronization errors
Common error messages seen on the device were:
- "We're having a problem syncing your information. Try again later. Error
code: 85002012"
- "We're having a problem syncing your information. Try again later. Last tried
xx seconds ago. Error code: 8500201D."
Support for BlackBerry 10 devices
BlackBerry 10 devices have limited support with IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta
refresh. IBM Notes Traveler 9 Beta now supports two-way sync of Mail and
Contacts on these devices using the built-in Exchange account. In addition,
Calendar data can be synced and viewed on the BlackBerry 10 device, but it is
not recommended to make changes to calendar events that contain attendees on
the device at this time as further work is in progress to validate calendar
meeting support. See the list of known limitations for BB10 for more details.
There is no client software to install to use IBM Lotus Notes Traveler on
BlackBerry 10 devices. However, an account must be created on your device for
mail, calendar, and contacts before you can connect to the IBM Notes Traveler
server. The following sections describe two distinct ways that this is done,
depending on how your company chooses to deploy BlackBerry 10 devices.
How is IBM Notes Traveler for Blackberry 10 devices unique?
BlackBerry® Balance™ technology is designed to separate and secure work and
personal information on BlackBerry devices. BlackBerry Balance security
features work in conjunction with a device registration to a BlackBery Device
Service capability in Blackberry Enterprise Service 10 (BES10). This enables
your company to secure work information on employee-owned devices. BlackBerry
Balance technology enables you to wipe all information or just work information
on BlackBerry devices remotely. So if an employee using a personally-owned
BlackBerry device for work purposes leaves an organization, an administrator
can remotely wipe business information from the device, leaving separate
personal information such as your non-work photographs, music, and other
personal files intact.
The implication for IBM Notes Traveler access and use from a BlackBerry 10
device is simply that there are two distinct ways in which a user's device can
be configured to connect:
BlackBerry 10 connect to IBM Notes Traveler via BlackBerry Enterprise Service
10
BlackBerry 10 direct connect to IBM Notes Traveler
In either case, there is no client software required. Supported applications on
a BlackBerry 10 device connect to IBM Notes Traveler using the ActiveSync
protocol. The same IBM Notes Traveler server supports BlackBerry 10, Windows
Mobile, Windows Phone, Nokia Series 60, Symbian^3, Android, and Apple iOS
devices for the same or different users. Although there is no client software
to install, an account must be created on your device for mail, calendar, and
contacts before you can connect to the IBM Notes Traveler server. The steps to
accomplish this are different for the two distinct types of connection (chosen
by your company), and are described separately.
IBM Notes Traveler includes support for two-way, push, manual, or scheduled
syncing for mail, calendar, and contacts for the supported BlackBerry® 10
devices. Other features for these devices include:
• Support for corporate directory name look up – You can search your corporate
directory directly from your device. After typing the first few characters of a
name or email address for a mail message, you are prompted if to search, and
the IBM Notes Traveler server searches for a list of matching names. It then
displays them for you on the device. Also, you can search for users in your
contacts application on the BlackBerry 10 device, and it returns email
addresses and phone numbers. • Embedded attachment support – Rich text mail
messages can display embedded images and attachments. For attachments larger
than 1 MB, you must explicitly download the attachments from within the
message.
Other mail support includes:
• Mail folder syncing from server to device
• Inbox mail is pushed to devices automatically
• Other folders sync on devices when opened
• Ability to push selected mail folders to BlackBerry 10 devices
• Creating, renaming, moving, and deleting folders on a Blackberry 10 device
• Rich HTML content
• Syncing of read/unread status
• Moving mail to and deleting mail from folders
• Marking an email for follow-up or as unread from the device
Calendar support includes full support of recurring events including IBM Notes
custom repeating events.
Contacts support includes creating, editing, and deleting contacts, as well as
syncing of all Domino® contact fields including the photo field.
If using IBM Notes Traveler to enforce Active Sync policies, the following can
be enforced:
Enforce Password with simple or complex requirements.
Enforce password expiration and history count.
Set Auto lock period.
Set number of incorrect passwords before wiping device.
Prohibit unencrypted devices
Prohibit download of attachments
(Note: If using a mixed management environment that also includes BES 10, BES
10 policy enforcement will override policies enforced by IBM Notes Traveler.)
IBM Notes Traveler does not support syncing of the Tasks and Memos applications
to BlackBerry® 10 devices.
Note: Other Blackberry devices running the Exchange ActiveSync protocol are not
officially supported by IBM Notes Traveler at this time. IBM testing with the
Exchange ActiveSync protocol has been limited to the BlackBerry® 10 OS devices.
Creating an account
Before you can connect to an IBM Notes Traveler server with your BlackBerry® 10
device, a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account must be created on the device.
This allows your BlackBerry 10 device to communicate with the IBM Notes
Traveler server. There are two distinct and different procedures depending on
which of the two connection methods your company has chosen.
Creating an account if connecting to IBM Notes Traveler via BES 10.
Note: For this type of connection, you will be activating your device with
BES10 and BES10 will push down the Notes Traveler and ActiveSync profile to the
device. Here are the steps:
Open either “Settings” or “Setup” and select “Accounts”
Select “Email, Calendar and Contacts”
Enter your email address
Select Next (You should be prompted for a “Activation Password” for BES10)
Enter Activation Password provided by your administrator
If prompted for Activation Server Address, enter the name provided by your
administrator. Note: Activation Server Address will usually start with an “S”
followed by 6 to 10 numbers (ex. S12345678)
Select Next
Create a BlackBerry Balance password. This password will be required to access
your work data (work perimeter) on the device.
When prompted, enter your Notes Traveler password, and Select OK
Activation will complete and Notes Traveler email, calendar and contacts should
begin to sync within a minute.
Creating an account if connecting directly to IBM Notes Traveler.
Note: For this type of direct connection, you will be manually entering the IBM
Notes Traveler and Exchange ActiveSync account settings information yourself.
Here are the steps:
Pull down from the top edge of the screen to reveal “Settings”, or from home
screen swipe left to reach Settings icon, then Select Settings.
Select Accounts
Select the Advanced icon (at the bottom of the screen)
Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
Populate the following fields
Description – Specify a description, or leave the default (the Email field
value).
Domain – Leave this field blank.
Username – Specify your HTTP user ID.
Email – Specify your mail address (for example, yourname@yourcompany.com).
Password – Specify your HTTP password.
Enter the IBM Notes Traveler address (URL) and Port number (provided by your
company administrator)
Click Next
Slide to Select On/Off for each of the content desired to be sync'ed with Notes
Traveler
- Sync Email
- Sync Contacts
- Sync Calendar
Note: Sync for Tasks and Memos is not supported
Click Done
Swipe upward from bottom edge to exit Settings
How do I customize my account?
For a BlackBerry 10 device that connects directly to Notes Traveler, for which
you created the settings, to customize later, use the Settings application of
your device to change your IBM Notes Traveler mail, calendars, and contacts
settings.
How do I delete my account?
The way you delete your account depends on your type of connection and how it
was originally created.
Do one of the following:
• If you connect via the BES 10, the account is managed for you, so contact
your BES 10 administrator. • If you connect directly and created the account
manually, select Settings > Accounts > select account name > from Edit Account
screen > Delete.
Known Limitations for BB10
The limitations below are based on testing with BB10 Dev Alpha devices running
device OS version 10.0.10.261.
Mail
When sending email, occasionally you may see the message "Protocol layer was
unable to send a message.". This has been observed consistently when trying to
e-mail a photo or attachment, and may also be observed when sending other
e-mails as well.
When viewing e-mails containing an apostrophe, the apostrophe is sometimes
replaced with the text '\u2019s'.
Out of the office support (also known as automatic replies) is not yet working
consistently.
Trash folder is not synchronized with the server. This restriction is common to
all devices that are supported by IBM Notes Traveler at this time.
Mail messages in the Drafts folder will sync from the server to the device. You
can continue editing the draft message on the BB10 device and send it. However,
changes made on the device to draft messages are not synchronized back to the
server. Any subsequent changes to the draft message on the server would
overwrite the changes made on the device locally.
Domino Encrypted mail is not supported.
Calendar
As an attendee, you cannot process meeting invitations on the device. When
receiving an invite, you will receive an invitation e-mail in your Inbox, but
upon opening, the following message will be displayed: "The calendar could not
recognize this meeting invitation!". Use your Notes or iNotes client to view,
accept, or decline meetings.
Do not create or update calendar events that contain meeting attendees using
the BB10 device. There are a number of issues in this area and it is
recommended to handle all calendar meetings using your Notes or iNotes clients.
Creation of a recurring calendar event (with or without attendees) from the
device does not allow selection of an End date, or number of recurrences.
Current, not changeable End is 'Never'.
Any calendar events on the device will result in a reminder displayed on the
device at or near the time of the event, regardless of if an event reminder is
set or not.
When rotating the device from portrait to landscape, calendar will remain
displayed as portrait.

Just installed Notes 9 GA. I noticed that by default not all the keyboard shourtcuts work. Ctrl + R does not, while Ctrl + 1 ( or 2 or 3 ) does. In order to enable Ctrl + R need to go in Preferences -> Basic Notes client configuration then sroll to the bottom of the list of options and check "Enable alternate keyboard shortcuts".
What I find not very good is that in the Notes Help, there's no mention of this. In the what's new section there is a reference to the new keyboard shortcuts, but no explanation that is turned off by default and how to enable it.

If you have your rules showing in the main pane and then right click on your folders and create a new folder, the new folder will be have a rules design instead of an inbox design. Any message documents that are in the folder will not be able to be seen. The toolbar at the top will show just as it would in the rules view.

MS seem to be pushing IE 10 down with Windows updates (oh goodie!) some users are having issues with iNotes (853), if we enable compatibility mode it resolves the issue. Is IE 10 a supported browsers with iNotes 9 ?

Fantastic new search Inbox: Just start typing. Searching always start in column "Who". I can change this field to "All Columns", but therefore I need my mouse. I suggest a feature in preferences to dock the choice I made for the column(s) to search. For instance, a checkbox to remember this setting.

Testing Notes Browser Plugin 9.0 Beta, I would have a few questions... I don't find any "Advanced menus" option in View menu... Is it provided somewhere else ? Some options are then missing.. delete a database for example... Is it expected ? Another question regards integration with iNotes. When trying to forward a document, I ever encounter the message "Mail operation is not supported" whereas it should use iNotes... I set : - BrowserAllowiNotesMail=1 - INOTES_SERVER_PATH=<servername> but it does not work... Is there something else to make it work? Would you know if using NBP, we have to expect higher CPU / I/O consumption than a Notes client, like using iNotes as client uses a browser... Or as NBP uses NRPC protocol, do we have to expect the same as a Notes client ? Or is it between these 2 cases ? And what about others browsers ? Chrome ? Is it shipped or about to ? Thanks for feedback. Eric

Hi, After updated to Notes 9 + Admin + Designer, I renamed desktop8.ndk to desktop9.ndk as done from desktop6.ndk to desktop8.ndk in the past. On launch of the Notes client, the design is replaced from the blue coloured non-textured workspace of 8.5.3 with the silver of 9. In 8.5.3 I had hundreds of tiles for applications across our Domino domain, however the vast majority of these have disappeared now since the upgrade to desktop9.ndk. Strangely enough applications which are missing can still be found using the Search facility within the 'Open' menu bar within the client but the application tiles themselves are not there. I can revert back and load Notes 9 with the desktop8.ndk file to get all these application tiles back but I am intrigued as to why only 20% of the tiles are showing although the 80% missing can still be found using the search tool. Regards

After upgrading to Notes 9 notes SQL will not work. I use notes SQL to connect to lotus notes databases using BRIO. The new design looks great but I need this to work or will have to go back to Notes 8.

While working in Domino Designer, if new mail is received, whatever
I'm working on loses focus and I'm taken to what appears to be a random
location. For example, I'm just now working on updating
<Computed Text> value in a form, I received a new mail notification
- Designer seems to jump around and the <Computed Text> editor
area is no longer highlighted.

How can I find a list of compatible products with the Domino 9 beta on IBM i? For example, can my Sametime Community Server run on Domino 9 on IBM i 7.1? Or, do I have my other Domino servers run 9 and just point to my 8.5.3 Domino Sametime Community Server? Do I need to be at a specific fix pack level for my other Domino servers to play well?

I upgraded a Domino 8.5.x server to 9 and installed a new Domino 9 server and clustered them, which seems to be working fine. The problem is every 15 minutes "Starting replication with server xxxx", then "Unable to replicate with server xxxx: None of the selected databases has a replica on the server" shows up on the new server. A few seconds later it does it a second time. The Connection documents do not have scheduled replication set up. Nothing shows up in the logs. I have no idea where the problem is or how to find what databases the server is getting confused about or why it's doing that.

I have 9 SE loaded on a PC, with Designer and Admin. Things work well and I can see that the 9.0 versions of Extension Library plugins have been folded into this DDE release, but there are other plugins I would like to install on this v9 PC, such as ExtLibX and DomSQL. I have a 8.5.3 Server with an UpdateSite database that holds those plugins. I have been unable to get the Plugins on there to install on my Notes 9 PC using "Application > Install" and the UpDateSite Remote Sites dialogs, but I may not be doing it right. Is this UpdateSite subject area going to be documented and supported for version 9? Shoud I be able to load plugins on a 9 client from an 8.5.3 server? Is 9 SE going to work with XWorks Server? tia Charles Ross

Hi, Is the Lotus Notes 9 Client Social Edition supported on Citrix Xenapp ? 6.5 ? If it is, could we use the same installation procedure as 8.5.3 (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21265898) ?
Thx

My calendar is set to display 'One Month'. Preview pane is open, 2 weeks (and the very top of the third week) shows.
When I open my calendar, 'today' (march 15) is highlighted, but it's hidden below the preview pane. I have to scroll down to see today.
