Is during Upgrade of Lotus Notes client 8.5 to 9.0.1 a restart needed?

Hi guys

Is during the ugprade of Lotus Notes 8.5 to 9.0.1 on the client machine a restart needed?

I know that for a successful upgrade are following steps needed:
- Uninstall Lotus Notes 8.5 (First language pack)
- Install Lotus Notes 9.0.1

My question is: Is after Uninstall Lotus Notes 8.5 a restart of the client machine needed? Maybe to clean up some registry during restart or something else?

What do IBM say official about this? I didnt find any official recommendation. Maybe you can help me.

Thank you for your help in advance!

James

upgrade

In theory you should not need to uninstall but it can't hurt.  The sequence you recommend is correct. A reboot should not be needed.   If you want testing for Notes client services running and forcing them to shutdown is advisable.  Also one Notes client is uninstalled the removing of the program directory is a good idea this way if any files are left behind from the old client it will be removed,  Caution should be taken if you installed and add-on software that puts itself  in the  Notes program directory.   In this case don't force a removal of the program directory.

The is a program called N.I.C.E  that you can run that scripts alot of the cleanup. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21459714

straight ahead

I have done this last year, I did not restart the OS until 9.0.1 and fix packs installation were completed.

One thing that bump me up was the jvm folder. I had to rename jvm folder to jvm2 before 9.0.1 can be installed.

The installer will notify you if a restart is needed...
All depends if files are in use when it is upgrading....  Majority of configurations a restart is not needed....

Thank you for your answer...

But is there an official documentation of IBM which mentioned that a restart is not needed during the upgrade process?
