We just upgraded Notes 8.5.3FP6 to 9.0.1FP3 using SmartUpgrade successfully at a customer site with 100+ seats. Mail template were also upgraded.

The new format with "time" (ex. 11:51) for mail of today, "weekday + time" (ex. mon 11:51) for this weeks mail, and "month + day + time" (mar 12 11:51) for this year and "2014-12-24 11:51" for the rest of the year is NOT what some of these users want (some users resist changes..).

These users want the old date-stamps for all mail "2014-12-24 11:51".

Anyone know how to achieve this?   (like notes.ini, or policy)

Possible answer but can you please provide a bit more info? - Date format
Can you describe exactly which date/time stamp you are talking about and where to find it - is this in the mail document header, a view or folder perhaps, or somewhere else on the client?  How many users (what percentage of upgraded users) see this format change - all upgraded users, some/many, or a few?  Can you reproduce on demand when upgrading any user to 901?  Are you using any customized options for your upgrade or mail template (old or new)?

What I thought when I read your post was this:  the date/time stamp in <received> mail documents, at the top right.  And if that's what users are unhappy about:
--This information is represented by a field on the Memo form called "DisplayDate_1".  The field properties for this date field in Designer indicate

a.) use the User-defined date/time settings - as set in the local client OS.

b.) to show "Only month, day, and year", and use the Gregorian Calendar.

c.)  there are time-related field options, but these, I believe, are irrelevant.

Thus, as with other time/date values within Notes/Domino, these also seem to pull from the current OS user settings.  And I do not know of any notes.ini parameters to control this.

I would start with the following:

1. Check the user local OS regional and time/date format preferences. On a windows system:  in the control panel --> Clock, language, and region --> "Change the date, time, or number format".

*What format is listed here:  'year-month-day', 'month-day-year' or 'day-month-year', etc.

2. For Windows client OS: check the registry key for: HKEY_USERS\Default\control panel\international.  There you will find a "geo" key set to a number value.  The geo key will also determine time/date formatting of the machine.  Here is a table of all the countries and their numeric value:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd374073.aspx
3. On a test system  *you may not want to do this on a production user*:  reset the local OS time/date options to something else, restart Notes client, and see if the Notes client date/time format also changes to the current OS settings.  Then change it back to the preferred and see if it updates in Notes client to the preferred format now.

Not sure if this technote helps:

Title:        Which RegKey defines the language for UserInterface= at initial launch of Notes client (Windows)

If you were talking about something completely different, please reply with additional details. Thank you.

More details

Hi Amy,

thank for the thorough answer.

I will take a look at these parameters next time I am the customer site (which is within 2 or 3 weeks).

4 Users of a 130 have complained so far so. Yes when upgrading Notes to 901 and upgrading template to 901 the change occurrs. Templates are not cusomized.

To be a little more clear what we want to achieve:

The "date" column in the inbox looks like this on a 9.0.1 client with new template (new mail at the top):

11:41

10:12

... ... ...

28 Apr 18:11

27 Feb 18:11

... ... ...

2014-08-21 11:11

2014-01-21 7:23

And what some users what is to have the "year-month-day time" on all mail, even the ones that came in the current day.

Another test to try
Will you have access to the previous version of the mail template when you return to the site?

If so, I thought of another couple of tests to try:
4.  Replace design of 1 mail file back to the <previous template version>, to see if the date/time format display changes.

If the date/time format changes, That would tell us the issue is 100% related to the template.
And if that is true, the template can always be customized, although not all customizations are supported.

5.  If it does NOT change it could be the Java Eclipse client controlling the date format display here. To test that:  launch the Notes client in BASIC mode (from the program directory, launch nlnotes.exe).  What does the date format look like now?

6.  If it still is not different -with old template and basic client - I would focus then on the client OS regional options.

Hope this helps.

Solution

Hi again Amy,

Thanks for pointing the DisplayDate_1 variable out. It was not what I was looking for (my first description was a bit unclear) but it was close! :-)

I looked into all the views, they have a "Date" column, and in this column properties unselect "Display abbreviated date" and now it is solved!

Again thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I will now mark this topic as solved.

PS  I created a master template where INBOX, SENT, ALL DOCUMENTS etc have the "full" date format. But how to get this into users customized folders, because they still have old date....

PS2   load convert -u mail\username * mail9templatename  does indeed inherit from #INBOX-folder design and date format. That means that all folders are also fixed. Problem totally solved!
