Java applet support on Linux?

I'm currently testing Notes 9 on an Ubuntu (64 bit) machine. I was able to set up everything as expected due to a nice how-to provided by Mats B Ekman (thanks!).

I'm aware that this might not be an officially supported configuration. Anyway, so far everything seems to be working fine except Java applets. The option 'Enable Java applets' is missing from the 'Basic Notes Client Configuration'. By default, EnableJavaApplets=0 in notes.ini. Any attempt to launch a Java applet just fails silently.

Before I start digging deeper (and maybe try other configurations), I just wanted to make sure: Is this a known limitation of the Notes 9 / Linux client? I could not find anything about it in the documentation provided by IBM. Or am I missing something obvious?

Thank you in advance for any tips or pointers.

Re-phrasing my question
Are Java applets supported in the Notes 9 client for the Linux platform?

Re:Java applet support on Linux?

I havent tried Notes 9 on the 32 bit Ubuntu in detail only to compare installations, when I did my how to for 64 bit.

I think you should try to install on 32 bit to see if it is the same as in 64 bit as 32 bit is supported.

I did not look for bugs in Java applet, but the bugs I saw was the same in 32 bit as they where in 64 bit, which was frustrating as I found the bug first in 64 and thought it was because it was 64 bit and tried to solve it because of that.

After that I decided to run both installations in paralell as I already had vmware workstation running.

regards

Mats

Thanks for replying. Problem also occurs with Ubuntu 32bit.
Just like you did, I set up another virtual machine with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (32 bit) to know the difference as compared to 64 bit. Unfortunately, Java applets don't seem to work on the 32 bit platform either. I guess this must be a limitation of the Notes9/Linux client in general. Just wonder why there's no mention of it in the documentation. (Unless I missed something of course.)

Thank you anyway!

No it's not installed, nor is OpenJDK, but...
...I believe that is not necessary, since Notes comes with its own JVM. I did verify that the /opt/ibm/notes/jvm folder is present && not empty. In fact I'm able to create and run Java agents, just not applets.

Anyway, applet support has never received much attention in Notes, which is why I'm assuming IBM silently dropped it from the Notes/Linux client. It would still be nice to get an official confirmation for this, or otherwise we'll keep on guessing.
