Lotus Notes 8.x Tips

Your guide to what's great about Notes 8 (and higher)

Most of you are probably familiar with Sametime--that email-reducing, real-time chatting wonder. I, for one, can't function without it.

But when I need to chat with someone, I'm also probably multitasking like crazy, and I don't want to have to switch between Notes and Sametime.

Well, luckily, in Notes 8, Sametime is embedded in Notes! It's always available in the sidebar panel, so if I need to ask someone a quick question or get their feedback on something I'm working on, I don't have to leave Notes. Sametime is right there!

And in Notes 8.5, there are some really useful drag-and-drop features that you don't want to miss:

Drag and drop between email and Sametime

The people you have in your Sametime contacts are probably already in your Inbox.  Notes 8.5 makes use of this by allowing you to drag and drop people from one to the other.

From your Inbox, you can select an email from the message list, and drag it into your Sametime Contacts sidebar panel. A ghosted version will appear so that you know you are dragging the correct message.  You can drop it on or in the middle of a group list.

A dialog box will appear, where you can choose which people from the To and Cc fields to add to the group by selecting or deselecting the checkbox to the left.

This feature works in reverse as well.  You can drag a Sametime contact or group into the To, CC, or BCC fields in an email. This is especially useful given that the groups of people you send emails to are often already grouped together in your Sametime Contacts.
