Organizations are faced with a need to move applications rapidly to the exploding smartphone and mobile device market, but building native applications with multiple device SDKs is very costly and time-consuming. Modern smartphone and tablet browsers have very good support for a rich user experience that can have a native look and feel across various smartphone vendors' devices, using web technologies such as HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript. IT organizations are looking for a tooling/framework answer for smartphone and mobile application development.
Web Experience Factory's automated tools for web application development are uniquely suited for mobile web application development.
- Automate the creation of smartphone-optimized applications, reducing or eliminating coding and speeding time to market
- Support your multi-channel strategy. Create once and run on multiple devices (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, iPad, etc.) in addition to PC browsers.
- Leverage all the Portlet Factory out-of-the-box features for quickly building exceptional web experiences
- Create native-looking smartphone applications using standard technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
- Leverage HTML5 for features such as geolocation and offline support
When you run a Web Experience Factory (WEF) model standalone, it is running as a standalone servlet based web application that owns the entire browser page. When you run a WEF model as a portlet in portal, it's only providing the portlet's portion of the portal page markup. The portal provides the rest (the actual outer page that the browser loads), so it will take more screen real estate than desired if you're not using a portal theme that was designed for mobile devices. The resources section below provides links to portal themes targeted at mobile devices, available from the portal catalog,
