The Data Field Settings builder lets you control all the page automation fields in a model.
You can control a limited number of field settings (and validation settings for data entry fields) using the Data Field Settings builder. You can limit the changes to one page in the model or to all pages in the model on which the field appears.
Page automation uses a rich data definition (RDD) file to apply a mapping of schema types that you use for your data to types that are defined in the RDD file. This mapping lets you associate rich user interface descriptions with fields that are described in the schema.
The Data Field Modifier builder is available to control all the possible data field and validation settings for your model. Use the Data Field Modifier builder for detailed customization of specific page elements. Use this builder to make general changes limited to a few settings.
By default, all page automation fields derive their types from a base RDD file. The specification of this file is controlled by the following property in the bowstreet.properties
To modify a base RDD file in any way, copy the original file and rename it. Modify the renamed file and override the value of the bowstreet.baseRddFile
property by placing the new definition in the project override.properties
file. Do not edit the supplied base RDD files.
To control settings, the following base RDD file is supplied.
If your project includes the Dojo Ajax feature set, the following base RDD file is supplied as the default.
You typically define the fields to modify in a form or data page, and use the settings in the base RDD file to apply those definitions consistently in your application. Using this builder, you can assign to the fields the types and properties defined in the base RDD file. For example, in the builder inputs under Field Type
in the field display settings, the list of possible types comes from the base RDD file defined for the model.
Ways to add the builder to your model
Add this builder to your model in one of the following ways.
- Use the popup menu command Data Field Settings.
Right-click a page automation field in the Design panel and click Data Field Settings -> Field or Data Field Settings -> Validation. (The Validation command is available on the menu only for data entry fields.) When you change a setting, click Apply or OK.
If you right-click a column or a field in a form or page, you can use Data Field Settings -> Hide or Data Field Settings -> Show to quickly change its display setting. The command lets you toggle the property that prevents the field or column from being displayed or lets it be displayed.
If you right-click a column or a field in a form or page, you can use Data Field Settings -> Sort or Data Field Settings -> Remove Sort to quickly change the sort setting. The command lets you toggle the property that allows the field or column to be sorted or prevents it from being sorted.
- Use the Properties view.
Click Window -> Show View -> Other -> General -> Properties to add the Properties view to the WebSphere Portlet Factory perspective. If you select a page automation field in the Design pane, you see the display and validation (for data entry) settings for the field. When you change a setting and click Apply in the Properties view menu bar, the Data Field Settings builder is added to your model.
- Use the builder picker to add the builder call to your model.
