This topic describes the inputs for the Discardable Variable builder.
- General inputs
- Caching Options
Table 1. General inputs
|Selection Type||Select one of the following: |
Data Service Operation
The results set returned from a service call that you indicate in the Service Operation input. Specified Variable
A data variable that you indicate in the Variable input.
|Service Operation||This input is available if the Selection Type input is Data Service Operation. Selects the results set to be modified. |
|Variable||This input is available if the Selection Type input is Specified Variable. Selects the variable to be modified. |
|Method for Reloading Data||This input is available if the Selection Type input is Specified Variable. Specify the method that reloads data. The method can return the value, or it can set the value of the variable itself.|
|Automatically Load If Null||Set this input to automatically cause a variable to be loaded when it is accessed. This input can be convenient for implementing lazy load functionality. If you have the Selection Type input set to Data Service Operation and set this input, your data service is called automatically the first time the result data is referenced. |
Table 2. Caching Options inputs
|Enable Caching||Set this input to enable caching of variable data. If data is not cached, it is kept only for a single request and reloaded when needed on subsequent requests. |
If caching is enabled, cache hits, misses, and data refetch operations are logged in server statistics.
|Cache Size||Specify the maximum number of entries to keep in the cache. If you leave this input blank, the value of the following property is used. |
|Cache Name Override||Use this input if you want multiple variables, potentially in different models, to use the same cache. Specify a cache name to force multiple models or variables to share the same cache. |
This input lets you limit the total number of cache entries for all variables that use the same cache name. For example, if you have four portlets that have results variables that are discardable and cached, you can specify the same cache name for all of them. Then, the total number of cache entries for all four portlets is limited to the value of the Cache Size input.
