6.3 Maintenance Download Information

IBM maintains a list of current recommended fixes for each of the different supported versions of WebSphere Portal on our web page.   This page includes links to download the latest recommended Fix Pack, Cumulative Fixes and important Interim Fixes that can be applied on top of the latest recommended Fix Pack.   It is also possible to find links to download older superseded fix packs and refresh packs, at the bottom of each version table.

An example for this is as follows:

From our Recommended fixes and updates for WebSphere Portal and Web Content Management page at: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=688&uid=swg27007603 ,   if you click on PK73933 which is the current recommended WCM cumulative fix, you will be prompted to log in to the fixcentral site.

Note : A recent change has been made to the way IBM distributes WebSphere Portal maintenance.   WebSphere Portal product fixes are now stored on the IBM Fix Central repository.    When you select one of the fixes from the recommended fixes page, you will be redirected to the fix central site:   http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral .   Once logged in, the next screen seen is the beginning of the packaging of the fix from the fix central site:

This automatically refreshes to show the select fixes and download method screen:

To proceed with the fix download, you'll need to do the following:

  1. Select the fix and preferred download method
  2. Click Continue .
  3. On the next screen, read and Accept the terms and conditions by clicking on I Agree
  4. Note that in this example, PK73933's entire prerequisite chain appears in this screen, including updates to WebSphere Application Server that are also prerequisites.   This feature greatly simplifies the process of obtaining fixes for WebSphere Portal.

Note: In a subsequent section, we explain how to use the Portal Update Installer (PUI) to provide a comprehensive listing of fixes which have already been installed to the existing Portal environment.

  5. On the next screen, you have the option of deselecting any of the included prerequisites in the event you already have them downloaded or installed.

  6. Click Download Now

.

6.3.a Downloading Portlet Updates

The process of downloading updates to Portlets is different from the process used to download updates to the WebSphere Portal Product.   Updates to many of the Portlets shipped with the WebSphere Product, can be found on the WebSphere Portal Business Solutions catalog, found on-line at:

http://catalog.lotus.com/wps/portal/portal

To determine if an update exists for a Portlet you have installed, search for the portlet's name on the catalog's main page, as shown in the figure below.

To view the update date, mouse over the Info Icon for the portlet on the search results page.

Click on the Portlet name to go to the portlet's individual page and from there you can click the download link to download the updated portlet.

Note: In a subsequent section (6.4.c), we describe the process for installing updated portlets
