A Step by step tutorial for Creating a Virtual Portal in WebSphere Portal 8 Please follow this video link:: Step by Step Video - For Creating a Virtual Portal in WebSphere Portal 8
Hi Every Body , Lets watch how to create a Virtual Portal in Portal 8 ..
There are two types of VPs in Portal 8.
1. Default VP.
2. Empty VP..
Default VP -- comes with default pages portlets etc.. with all default minimal artifacts and it is good for a developer env. when a developer requests us
to create a VP..
But from there .... in testing env
and Production env.. We should not create a VP or Default Vp as that will be having diff Object ids for resources..
So what is the solution ?
the VP that we created , in Developer env.. we need to move to staging or production etc.. VIA xmlaccess.. its a 3 step process,
a) create a empty Virtual portal in staging
b) Import the XML file of DEV Virtual portal that is ready into staging + make sure all the themes ear files & war files are copied to staging portal
c) Import the wcm libraries,, via export/import command or via syndication..
So, the step above called a) create a empty Virtual portal in staging (this is 2. Empty VP..)
So, we have always two ways of creating a virtual portal one is default for dev purpose & another one is empty VP.. good for production or staging..
Now lets see in this video how to create a default Virtual portal, watch my other videos for creating a empty Virtual portal..
Login to portal goo to administration tab click ---> Virtual Portals --> manage virtual portals click on --> New Virtual portal and you will be prompted like this
A title could be anything what is must for a VP is only 3 things..
one is context root
Initial Admin user group
without giving these values its hard to create a VP but not impossible ..
Keep the default theme or the required theme as per your need,,
click on OK..
It takes a while to create a VP atleast 2 minutes.. after that
try to access your portal like this::
and that is where is your NEW VP avilable.
that is the administration login of your new VP called test123,, watch my other videos on how to create an empty VP.. OR
Goto your wp_profile/ConfigEngine folder and invoke the command to create an empty VP..
to create an empty VP named test123 here is the syntax...
./ConfigEngine.sh create-virtual-portal -DVirtualPortalTitle=test123 -DVirtualPortalContext=test123
That much is enough initially after you imported the initial XMLACCESS file you will get the ADMINISTRATION PAGE filled with content and you can assign
the realm etc.. once emtpy VP created...
