Getting Started with Your Web Experience
is an online application that hosts tutorials to help you become familiar with WebSphere Portal and Web Content Manager. The content developers for those products will continue to create new tutorials over the next few months.
Today you can use the tutorials to learn how to install WebSphere Portal and configure it to work with a DB2 database. Coming soon are tutorials about Web Content Manager and Portal fundamentals, how to start setting up a content management system and more.
To filter the tutorials you can select the role that best reflects what you do. If you're not sure, you can select All Roles and see everything.
Learn the Basics
The Learn the Basics tutorials do not give you lots of options. To keep the focus on learning the foundational elements, the tutorials use narrowly defined scenarios. The tutorials guide you through simple tasks.
Beyond the Basics
After you master the basic tutorials, progress to Beyond the Basics. Beyond the Basics tutorials step you through more complex decisions to get you ready for production deployments.
The application remembers your location in the tutorial. The next time you open the application, it will resume where you left. So you can close your browser and come back later. Using HTML 5 features, the application stores your session. Clearing your browser cache does not clear the session information. Only clearing your local storage will reset the application.
Each tutorials includes check boxes to help you keep your place on the page. You don't have to use the check boxes to move forward. They are just provided to help you keep your place.
If you prefer to jot notes on paper as you go, there is a PDF for each tutorial. The PDF is available in the left outline area of the tutorial.
Some tutorials include supplemental information such as check lists and reference cards. The supplements are designed to record your decisions for future reference.
Since the application uses HTML5 feature, using a browser with HTML5 support will have the best results. Each browser works differently, but here are some that we tested with. Newer browsers demonstrated better user interactions.
- Firefox Version 5 - 11
- Chrome Version 13 - 18
- Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 9
