IBM WebSphere Portal Unified Task List Portlet version 5.0

expanded Abstract
collapsed Abstract
The Unified Task List provides a single point of integration between multiple systems and displays tasks that WebSphere® Portal users must complete to advance workflows. The topics in this section provide information and instructions for developing and customizing the Unified Task List.

The IBM WebSphere Portal Unified Task List Portlet version 5.0 for WebSphere Portal 7.0 aggregates tasks and activities from multiple systems into a single user interface. WebSphere Portal 7.0 users access the Unified Task List portlet to view all tasks relevant to them. They can then complete these tasks using task processing portlets created with the included Unified Task List Business Process Support package for Web Experience Factory. The Unified Task List portlet in this release contains a task provider for WebSphere Process Server 6, WebSphere Process Server 7.0.0.4, IBM WebSphere Lombardi Edition 7.2, IBM Business Process Manager 7.5 and 7.5.1. Also Included are two Coach portlets for Lombardi and Business Process Manager Coach processing in Portal Server.

The download bundle contains a Solution Installer (PAA) file, two Package (PKG) files and documentation. You can use the PAA file to quickly deploy a working example of the Unified Task List portlet to WebSphere Portal. After you deploy it, you can evaluate the Unified Task List portlet to determine how you want to customize and extend it to suit your environment and needs.  You can use the Unified Task List PKG file to add the Unified Task List portlet feature set to Web Experience Factory. After you add the feature set, you can customize and extend the Unified Task List portlet in the development environment. You can customize the two Coach portlets for both Lombardi and Business Process Manager Server. The Unified Task List Business Process Support package can be leveraged within Web Experience Factory to create task processing portlets for use with the Unified Task List portlet and Process Server, together they offer a start to finish business process solution for WebSphere Portal Server.  The Unified Task List portlet uses dynamic portlet pages, cross-page wiring or external urls to communicate with other task processing portlets and process workflows.

Task providers are services that access backend systems to retrieve tasks. The out-of-box Unified Task List includes five task providers, a demo task provider, a Process Server Query API task provider, a task provider for the IBM WebSphere Process Server Task Query Table API, a WebSphere Lombardi Edition task provider and an IBM Business Process Manager task provider. The demo task provider uses an XML file to display a list of example tasks that you can use to evaluate the Unified Task List. The two task providers for WebSphere Process Server let you retrieve Business Process tasks from WebSphere Process Server and display them in IBM WebSphere Portal through the Unified Task List. The WebSphere Lombardi Edition task provider retrieves tasks from the Lombardi Server. The Business Process Manager task provider retrieves tasks from IBM Business Process Manager. Two Coach portlets are also provided to allow you to process the tasks retrieved from WebSphere Lombardi Server and IBM Business Process Manager Server in WebSphere Portal Server. Using the Human Task Processing Action builder in the Unified Task List Business Process Support package for Web Experience Factory you can quickly develop task processing portlets to complete the Process Server tasks displayed in the Unified Task List Portlet.

This release of IBM WebSphere Portal Unified Task list adds the following new features:

  • Early release of the UTL features from Portal 8.0
  • Support for IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) 7.5 & 7.5.1 including updates to the coach portlets
  • Updates to the localisation for user specified runtime filter names
  • Several bug fixes
  • Revised User Guide
  • Verified on Portal 7.0.0.1 on Windows, Linux and AIX
