WebSphere Portal Document Manager library delete tool

No abstract provided.
This article provides installation and usage instructions for the IBM WebSphere Portal Document Manager library delete tool. The library delete tool is a portlet that you deploy to WebSphere Portal and use to delete Portal Document Manager libraries migrated from WebSphere Portal Document Manager V6.0. You should use the library delete tool after you complete your migration to WebSphere Portal V6.1 with the WebSphere Portal Document Manager migration tool.

Installing the library delete tool

To install the library delete tool, do the following:

1. Log in to WebSphere Portal as an administrator.
2. Select Administration > Portlet Management > Web Modules. The Manage Web Modules portlet displays.
3. Select Install, then browse to the location of the portlet WAR file and click Next. A message displays to inform you if the portlet installed successfully.
4. Add the portlet to a portal page.

After you add the portlet to a portal page, it automatically loads a list of all available Portal Document Manager libraries.

Configure the CMAPI log settings to monitor the folders and documents that you delete

The library delete tool does not display information about the folders and documents in the libraries that you delete. To monitor the folders and documents in the libraries you delete, you must configure your Content Management API (CMAPI) logging settings so that the folders and documents in the libraries that you delete display in the logs.

Note on CMAPI: The Content Management API provides the functionality for Portal Document Manager. From a functional perspective, Portal Document Manager is no longer available with WebSphere Portal V6.1 or higher. However, the Content Management API still exists as part of WebSphere Portal. The library delete tool uses the CMAPI to delete the Portal Document Manager libraries.

To configure the CMAPI log settings to monitor the folders and documents that you delete, do the following:

1. Log in to the WebSphere Application Server administration console.
2. Select Troubleshooting > Logs and Trace.
3. Select WebSphere_Portal from the list of servers.
4. In the General Properties section, select Change Log Detail Levels.
5. Select the Runtime tab.
6. Locate and click com.ibm.content.*.
7. Select Message and Trace Levels > finest.
8. Click Apply then OK.
9. Navigate to the following folder on your WebSphere Portal V6.1 server: portal_server_root\wp_profile\logs\WebSphere_Portal
10. Locate the following log file: trace.log.
11. Monitor trace.log to view the folders and documents in the libraries that you delete.

Tool performance:
for eg: when ran delete tool on customer example
Pdm library 'goteborg.dok'  (5.65 GB, 3181 folders and 13994 docs)
took nearly 6 hours to delete the library.

Pdm library 'Forvaltningar' (1.55 GB, 381 folders and 4325 docs)
approximately took two and half hours to delete.
