Common fragments are extracted and reused as much as possible. A set of plug-ins uses simple but powerful logic tests for rendering, which encourages reuse across a wide range of site designs.
The reusable components of presentation templates are grouped into folders.
Presentation template content items
The presentation of content types like News, Events, and Communications is simple and consists of styled containers wrapped around the content fields. There is a template for each content type, mapped directly onto each authoring template.
Component configuration items
The four “component” templates in Content Template Catalog are Block, List, Slideshow, and Carousel. They are all designed to allow the configuration of a component for a portlet.
The role of the Context Override field
Setting a context override is the key to getting many of the components to select content appropriately throughout the site. Overrides also allow reuse of these components (for example, by avoiding the hardcoding of site areas into menus and rules).
The Block template
The Block template displays blocks of content in a portlet. It is a generic template for putting three components together – a header, content, and footer. It also includes the context override option and title that the List and Slideshow templates have.
The List template
The List template is used extensively in Content Template Catalog to configure lists of content. The pattern is general and can be used for most types of lists you need.
The Slideshow template
A slideshow is a great way to show multiple items in a small space and typically uses strong imagery to attract attention. Navigation controls allow the user to navigate through the slides. You can have the slideshow run automatically, run once only, or run manually when the user chooses to run it.
The Carousel template
Like a slideshow, a Carousel shows a lot of content in a small space. A “page” of items is shown at one time and navigation controls allow you to move back and forward through the pages.
The List Presentation component
You can add the List Presentation component to any page created from the List, Slideshow, or Carousel templates. The component allows you to define a header, footer, and result design in one place and reuse the component on multiple pages. Pages created from the Block Template do not use List Presentation components.
