Overview - Building Check In application
Social collaboration is a concept that has gained popularity and is now increasingly used in the workplace. One component of collaboration is the sharing of a person's location at a venue, commonly referred to as check-in
. For this use case, we describe how a check-in application can be developed for WebSphere Portal using IBM Web Experience Factory. This single application supports three different execution environments:
- In a desktop environment, a user will be able to browse through a list of existing check-in entries.
- In a mobile browser environment, in addition to browsing through entries, a user will be able to create a new check-in entry while capturing their geographic location.
- In a hybrid mobile environment, a user will have the same capabilities found in the mobile version, but will also be able to take a photograph using the mobile device's camera.
We start with the desktop version implementation and then explain how the same application can be easily extended to support mobile and hybrid mobile environments. One application, three different feature sets.
