I believe Quickplace/Team Workplace only supports URLs with the full DNS name of the server, rather than an IP address. Regardless, you should probably contact Customer Support with more detailed information on the customer's environment, or feel free to post more information here, if you'd like.
BTW, when you say "sso", I assume you mean MSSO? SSO is not officially supported by QP/TW.
