1. Am I correct in my understanding about calculated fields existing only in the Approach file, and that they don't count against the limit of 255 fields per file? YES
2. If so, is there any limit to the maximum number of calculated fields in an Approach file? Not that I am aware of
3. Finally, if there IS a limit, can it be overcome in thee same manner as I overcame the limit of other fields--that is, by creating the calculated fields that exceed the limit in another joined database. (See #2)
«What I'm also not clear about is whether a calculated field can be created ONLY in the primary data base, when multiple databases are joined, or if they can be in ANY of the joined databases» As you clearly noted in your post, the calculated fields are in the APR and not in any of the databases, primary or otherwise, so this question is meaningless.
