SSO does not make use of the users password once connected. It is using LTPA tokens. As you are logging into Notes with the notes client id, that is not the internet password, but the password stored within the ID, the server then authenticates that ID and provides the notes client with an LTPA token, that token is then used by the embedded client for single signon. At no point was the users internet password/Sametime password used/required.
If you were turn off SSO in the sametime client, you would need to enter the new internet password as it would no longer be using SSO and would be authenticating you against the password stored in the directory.
