The preferred way would be to have a network apliance do the load-balancing for you. It will make any kind of fail-over faster and vitually painless. all other versions will have a time lag of greater or lesser degree and that can be painful in a bsy environment. I have done many implementations and any busy environment will be better off with an appliance. No LDAP means no new log-on/authentication and no awareness.
You started right with addind the second diretory entry in DA, now you will also need to add another LDAP document to the stconfig.nsf for the secondary LDAP source. Just copy and paste and then change the directory address.
