We are currently running Sametime 8.5.2 IFR1 on 32-bit Windows 2003 and Domino 8.5.3FP2. We are in the process of upgrading our Domino servers to ND9 and Windows 2008 R2 64-bit. However we are planning, for now, to leave Sametime in its current configuration because we only require the Community Server as we only use the chat function and online meetings. If we move to ST9 then I would require the Community Server, Meeting Server, SSC, and DB2. (I'm not sure if I would require the proxy server as well) in order to provide chat and meeting functionality.
I was informed by our Helpdesk who is doing testing with Windows 7 64-bit in anticipation of that upgrade project, that unless he uses a 32-bit browser with 32-bit java (in this case Java 6 update 43) then ST meetings don't work. He told me (and I never heard this until now) that on our 32-bit XP machines, that meetings don't work with Java newer than the above named version.
So, how do I resolve this? Does Sametime require a 32-bit version of Domino when I upgrade the OS and move to 64-bit? Is there something I should be doing to ensure it works with Windows 7? Is it difficult to setup ST9 if that's the recommended solution and do I need more than one server to run all of what is needed?
