I have configured the ST Gateway to federate with a MS Lync Edge server, using "SIP for OCS" .
It was quite painful. We also managed to federate through an XMPP server providing gateway to Lync Edge server.
What we learned :
- switching between XMPP and SIP was hard on the MS Lync side - you must really erase the config and reboot all Edge & XMPP servers. Otherwise they remember wrong pieces of config, and some connections use a wrong path/protocol.
- XMPP did work but with an annoying bug - the "is typing" event is not recognized by ST client and makes annoying empty lines in the conversation.
I have federated the gateway server node to the ST Console deployment manager. It was not in the documentation, but I really appreciated it as it permitted me to deploy LDAP Repository, LTPA Token, and most of all the SSL keystores.
I suspect that this brought me our last problem : the conversation was always one-way, outgoing to Lync. The error for Lync Edge was 401 not authorized, answering to its SUBSCRIBE msg.
This problem is known only for the ST Media Manager. But I applied the same solution : one must disable the "Digest TAI on SIP Container" .
In the ST Console, goto :
Application servers > YourGWServer > SIP container > Custom properties
There you set this property :
com.ibm.ws.sip.security.enable.digest.tai = false
I read that this was induced by a security policy in the Meeting Server, and pushing to other nodes.
