We have a scenario where there's a group of users who we would like to restrict from using sametime in the embedded eclipse 8.5 client. I can't find a foolproof way to do this, but here's what I've tried:
- Created a Desktop policy specifying an 'IBM Lotus Notes Instant Messaging server' of 'NO SAMETIME'. Also, in that same policy, under 'Preferences' -> 'Instant Messaging', I set an 'Instant messaging server of 'NO SAMETIME'. This works great if you use basic client, but seems to have no effect on the Eclipse based client. After the policy applied, I still have my default server community, and can login easily.
- Created another Desktop policy, and under 'Preferences' --> 'Window Management', I set 'Hide Sametime Contacts Panel' to 'Yes', preventing changes. This sorta works, because it effectively hides the Sametime Contacts sidebar, which can keep them from initiating chats. The downside is that users outside of my lockdown group can initiate a chat with the restricted group, circumventing my lockdown.
Is there any way to prevent a group of users in the NAB from using sametime chat? Even if I can prevent them from using any sametime functionality, that works for my scenario. I have read this technote below, but it doesn't mention 8.5, so I'm hoping there's a better way to do it in 8.5x?
