RE: Some questions on transfering files Ryan Desjardins 16.Apr.08 12:44 PM Lotus Notes Sametime Entry 7.5.1Windows
1. How can I set the files to be transfered with using the server instead of being transfered from client to client? And where the files will be saved on the server?
Answer: Yes, you can. With 7.5.x and above, you need to turn off the P2P File Transfer ability via the policy which applies to the user. Turn of the "Allow client-to-client file transfer" however keep "Allow file transfer" turned on. Thus the file transfer will go through the server.
However, in neither of these methods is the file ever stored on the server. It simply transfers from one end-user to the other.
2. Which encrypted protocol is adopoted during transfering files? And can it prevent the files being modified?
Answer: File transfers going through the server are encrypted the same as chats, using 128 bit encryption. P2P file transfer is not encrypted.
Regarding the files being modified - the server will not ever modify the file. To prevent the other end-user from modifying the file sent to them, you would need to make the file read-only on the OS level.
