A customer has asked me if there is a way to improve the peformance of audio & video in meetings, since it showed delays up to a second which is not acceptable to them (and I agree).
A video chat between two clients works ok, but if you enable audio/video in an online meeting there's a delay in video of somewhere between 0.5 and 1 second .
Sofar I've not been able to find any tuning parameters that might help here.
The server shows virtually no load (testing with just two users), the network traffic doesn't get past 200KB/s (on a 1gb network), with the high quality codecs and 512kbps bitrate for video selected.
the delays are still there when choosing the lowest quality codecs and bitrates, so it is not a network issue. (ping response <1ms on all clients used in the test.).
Are there some additional settings to tweak in this respect outside the jitter buffer and number of frames per packet?
The sametime server is a dual Xeon 3GHz with 4GB RAM running Domino 7.0.2 FP2 with Sametime 7.5.1 CF1 installed.
Sametime is configured for tunnelling, for users that need access over port 80, but during testing clients in the LAN were used, and the Java console output (debug level 2) shows that UDP connections were used for audio & video.
CPU & Network load on the server very low.
Or should I tell the customer that Sametime just isn't up to the task when it comes to online meetings.
