Server 8.5 Windows

I've been asked to look into what would be required for us to upgrade from ST7.5 to ST8.5 My director has been seduced by the features and functionality that can be gained, particularly the unified messaging.

We presently are a ND7.x shop where all our servers are 7.03 and we've got a Sametime 7.5.1 server. Right now we really only use it for chatting and some online meetings. We don't presently do video or audio with it. We've got all our servers on Windows2000 so I know we will have to upgrade the OS to Windows 2003. (We're gradually doing that with our other Domino servers now).

I've seen the link that Carl Tyler created ( which was excellent. And I've seen the links by another poster here -->

I've got to admit I'm a bit overwhelmed by everything I've read and think I'm going to have to insist on some sort of hands on training course before the upgrade. But meanwhile, can someone help me understand what we will need? Will we need more than one physical server? Is Websphere required? LDAP is required? We don't presently use it. Also, DB2?

Thanks for any help.
