Sametime Unified Telephony and moderator mute/unmute behavior

expanded Abstract
collapsed Abstract
No abstract provided.
When a moderator mutes or unmutes all during a click-to-conference call, the call control does not provide a 'lock'. This means that participants have the ability to unmute themselves after the moderator has used 'mute all'. In other words, call participants are not 'locked' on mute.

The following table outlines what happens during a IBM® Lotus® Sametime® Unified Telephony 8 call when the call moderator mutes or umute all.

Note: This behavior does not apply to a call that starts as a one-on-one call to which additional participants are invited.

mute all (without lock)

mute all
unmute all
    What happens for moderator
    nothing -- not muted
nothing -- still not on mute
    What happens for everyone else
    mutes everyone
    (they can unmute themselves)
unmutes everyone who has not self-muted
    What happens to new-comers
new-comers come in muted (they can unmute themselves)
unmutes everyone who has not self-muted
What happens to people who have muted themselves
    they are muted
(but can unmute by pressing unmute on their UI*)
    still on mute
(to get off mute, they must press unmute*)

  • or use the appropriate presses on the keypad
