This article describes how you can set up a proof-of-concept deployment of Sametime only. The instructions in this article are not a substitute for the Sametime 8.5 technical documentation.
Read the official product documentation for instructions on planning, installing, and configuring Sametime.
This Lotusphere 2010 presentation takes you through installing IBM Lotus Sametime 8.5 on three machines, one of them dedicated to LDAP, in a pilot environment in less that two hours.
Lotus Sametime 8.5 setup can be fast, smooth, and easy when you know what you are doing. 120 minutes is all it takes -- and this presentation shows you how. The new server architecture of Lotus Sametime 8.5 offers so many more options to deploy that it is not easy to know where to start. In this presentation from Lotusphere 2010, the presenters want to prove that it is possible to create a proof of concept setup very quickly, They install all the new Lotus Sametime 8.5 components: Lotus Sametime System Console, Community Server, Proxy Server, Meeting Server, Media Server, and the new Lotus Sametime Connect client. At the end of the presentation, you can experience how to maintain and administer the whole environment from the new Lotus Sametime System Console.

Question from Jean Midot and answer from Frank Altenburg
Jean: I followed all the steps but I have an error when I want to configure the authentication against my Active Directory.
Frank: Start from the beginning and when creating the LDAP prerequisite, remove the "uid" in the 3 fields.
1. Then install the community server.
2. After that, open the Directory Assistance database with a notes client.
3. Go into the LDAP record and change the LDAP Type from "Standard LDAP" to "Active Directory"
4. Now open the stconfig.nsf database and the LDAP record.
5. In here you can find an authentication and search filter.
6. add the field "sAMAccountName" to both filters. (same way then the mail or cn attribute)
7. Restart the community server
For the WebSphere based servers who need LDAP (the console, meeting and media server) it should work.
But because you have removed the "uid" in the prerequisite, it can be added in the ISC - Security settings separate, if required.
