Welcome to IBM Sametime 9.0. In Sametime 9.0, the new streamlined interface brings commonly-used tools and features right to you, bringing you a richer communication experience.
While the look and feel has changed, your favorite features are still there, and now even easier to access.

Table 3. Contact list and chat
In Sametime 9.0, all Sametime apps are in one place, so it's easy to switch back and forth.
Click icons in navigator to open Meetings, Chat Rooms, and then return to Contacts.
You can see how your colleagues see you in your new status card.
You can edit your geographic location, availability status, and create a custom message with just a few clicks.

Double-click to edit geographic location. Click to enter a custom status message, and change your availability status to Away using the drop-down menu.
Adding a contact is now quicker and easier than ever.
Click Add a Contact icon.
For contacts you've already added, the commonly-used communication tools are easy to access. You can chat, make video and audio calls, share your screen, and start a meeting with just a click.
If you don't find what you need here, more options are close by.
Highlight tools on the action bar (chat, video call, call options, instant share, and instant meeting) then open call drop-down menu.
For other options, you can find everything else you need in just two menus--one for the Sametime app that’s open, and one for Sametime in general.
Click Click for a Menu of Options menu.
Click Actions and Preferences menu.
If you belong to multiple server communities or need to change your preferred calling device, expand the bottom of your status card.
Click Show server connection details icon in status card, and see status for all server communities, as well as preferred devices.

You can easily sort and filter your list of contacts.
If you want, you can change views in Meetings, Chat Rooms, and Primary Contacts as well.
Click the arrow next to Contacts, and select Online Contacts Only.
Open chat rooms panel, and show you can use the same sort and filter menu to view chat rooms by folder or by activity.
A second option for sorting your contact list is to use Primary Contacts. Sametime Primary Contacts automatically creates a list of frequent and recent contacts, or lets you create a personalized list.
You can drag and drop contacts to add them. You can also display pictures instead of names in these lists.
Open the Primary Contacts panel. Click the arrow next to Primary Contacts and highlight Recent Contacts, then highlight Frequent Contacts.

Click the arrow next to Primary Contacts, highlight “Display as” option and select Photo view.
When you chat with people, you also see their photos in the tabbed chat window. The tabbed chat window helps save space, and you can quickly switch between multiple chats, both group and individual.
On each tab, see the current status of a contact and the number of incoming chat messages.
If you prefer, you can switch between name and photo views.
Double-click a contact to start a chat, double-click another contact and show tabbed window.

Change width of left tabs to switch between name and photo view.
If you invite new people to a chat, you can let them see the part of the conversation that occurred before they joined, so no one needs to repeat information.
From an existing chat, click Invite Others icon to add people to the chat.
Enter a name, then select the option to Allow new chat invitees to see previous chat transcript when they join the chat.

Table 5. Web Chat
Now you can call someone, or video call someone, from Sametime.
Select someone on your contact list. Highlight Call button and Video Call button. Click the call button.
Type a number in the Find person or number field.
Video calls are now in high definition, and you can see multiple participants' video in a group video call.
If you're on a video call with multiple people, you can choose different options for the video layout.
From the call window, click the video call button, to change the audio call to a video call. Add another person to the video call.
Click the Video Layout button and select another option.

If you're using Sametime on the web, now you can transfer files and share screen captures on the web.

Sametime Meetings also has the same new, streamlined look.
Fade to Sametime rich client. Click Sametime Meetings in the navigator to open Meetings.
You can easily switch between Meeting views, and easily access recordings for your meeting room.
Click the View button to see other view options such as Recent Meeting Rooms.
Select a meeting room, click More, and then select View Recordings.
If you're in a meeting and want to change your Sametime status, you can do it from inside the meeting room.
If you’re about to share you screen, it’s easy to change your status to Do Not Disturb.
Click Enter Room to open the meeting room.
Select status icon in meeting room header, and change it to Do Not Disturb.
In meeting rooms, there's a new Meeting Stream that shows all the events that happen in the meeting room.
The Meeting Stream tab is open by default. Highlight the meeting stream.
You can see when someone joins or leaves a meeting, and when someone adds a file to the library. You can chat with other meeting participants, and more.

Type “Great presentation!” into the discussion.
You can also choose to only see the discussion part of the Meeting Stream.
Click arrow next to Meeting Stream, and then select Discussion Only.
If you don't know who someone is in a meeting, you can now see their photo, job title, or other available information.
Click Participants to open the participant list.
Highlight a participant with their job title and photo.
If you're in a meeting with video, the video is high definition, and the layout is optimized based on the number of participants.
Open Voice and Video. A video meeting is in progress.
If you prefer another layout, you can change it.
Click Change Video Layout icon, and then select a different video layout.
You can drag files from your computer to the Library to share them. You can share IBM Symphony files, Microsoft PowerPoint, PDFs, and more!
Open the Library. Drag a file from desktop to the Library.
If you want to see more than one area of a meeting room at once, you can open it in a new window.
Click the Click for a Menu of Options icon, and then select Open in New Window.
For meeting rooms you own, you can now make multiple people managers of a particular room.
Managers can do everything required to run a meeting for you, including sharing, managing participants roles, changing the meeting room password, and more.
From the meeting room, click the Actions and Preferences icon, and then select Change Permissions.
In the Manage the meeting room field, select two more participants, who can now act as managers.

When you use Meetings on the web, you can now use audio and video in a meeting.
