The following information about geographic location
profiles applies to IBM
® Lotus
® Sametime
®
Connect 7.5 - 8.0.2. In addition, geographic location profiles in Lotus
Sametime Connect are not the same as location settings or profiles in IBM
Lotus Notes
®.
When you set up one or more geographic location
profiles, your colleagues can see where you are physically located and
how to reach you. This information displays whenever they hover the mouse
over your name on their contact list or engage in an on-line chat with
you.
You can also choose not to share location
information with others.
Here is an example of geographic location
information displayed in the Sametime business card:
You can specify a geographic location profile
for each location that Sametime detects. For example, you can set up one
profile for your New York office and one for your London office. When you
are sitting in your New York office, others see
your New York office profile. When
you are in your London office, they see your London profile. Optionally,
you can set up geographic location preferences so that you are alerted
whenever you are in a new location for which you have not yet entered a
location profile.
NOTE: You can edit a profile and apply
your changes to the current profile, but you can't apply a different location
profile to the current location. For example, if I am working
from home and I'm showing everyone my home profile, I can't select my office
profile and apply it to my current location.
Creating geographic location
profiles
You can create a geographic location profile
for each physical location. None of the fields for a profile are required,
but the more information you provide, the more informative your profile
is.
Note: Sametime
prompts you to enter a new profile whenever
you log in for the first time.
Follow these steps to create
a new profile:
- Click File > Preferences and then click Geographic
Location in the navigator. Your current location is indicated by the
label (Current) next to the profile name in the list of location profiles.
- Select Share my location information with others so that
when other users hover the mouse over your name or chat with you,
this location information appears.
- For Personal location, enter a description of where you
are located, for example, "Atlas company office," or Home office."
Complete the remaining fields, as
appropriate.
Note: If you are using Sametime Unified
Telephony, no Primary Phone Number field appears. Instead, your
assigned unified telephony number is used; this number appears in your
business card.
- Select of clear Do not show
the alert for editing location settings at location change again to
indicate whether you want to be alerted to change your location profile
whenever you are in a new location.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
