The RG 8700 survivable media gateway provides scalable and standards-based gateway platforms that mediate TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) traffic (in circuit-switched, fixed, or mobile switching networks) to the packet world with carrier-grade reliability.
The media gateway RG 8700 ensures that station-to-station calls, PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) access, and United States emergency services access (E9-1-1) are available at all times in remote branches. It supports the ANSI and ETSI PRI protocols, QSIG (Q Signaling) tunneling interface, and E9-1-1 LIN server provisioning.
It is administered via the RG 8700 Assistant, and uses SIP to interface to the Lotus Sametime Unified Telephony system. When QSIG tunneling to the HiPath 3000 or is present, SIP-Q is used instead.
System Specific Information
The RG 8700 supports the following:
ANSI and ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) PRI (Primary Rate Interface) protocols.
QSIG tunneling interface.
E9-1-1 LIN (Location Identification Number) server provisioning.
Encrypted SRTP with the MIKEY Profile 0 key management protocol. When the SIP-Q interface is used, the RG 8700 is able to build an end-to-end secure call with the .
G.711, G.726, G.729, and G.723.1 codecs.
DTMF (Dual Tone Multifrequency) Events in accordance with RFC 2833.
T.38 (Fax over IP).
Geographic node separation by switching between the nodes in case of a node failure.
The following RG 8700 models are available:
Parent topic: PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) Connection
This model has two E1 or T1 primary rate interfaces (PRIs). It supports up to 300 subscribers.
This model has eight E1 or T1 PRIs. It supports up to 1000 subscribers
This model has 16 E1 or T1 PRIs. It supports up to 2000 subscribers.
How to Add a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) Gateway Quickly
The feature Quick Add PSTN Gateway supports the creation of the whole infrastructure for interworking between the softswitch and the PSTN.

How to Set Up Gateway and Routing for PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network)
How to Add a PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) Gateway Quickly
The feature Quick Add PABX Gateway supports the creation of the whole infrastructure for interworking between the softswitch and the PABX. During the creation of a PABX Gateway an Endpoint Profile, an Endpoint, a Destination, and a Route from Destination to Endpoint is created.
